Perry is Perry is a Chicago native, born to Laurie Metcalf and Jeff Perry. In the ABC sitcom Roseanne (as seen by flashback) Her mother played Jackie Harris in two of Perry's initial TV roles. However, her parents did not allow her to act until she reached the age of adulthood due to the negative effects that stress could be able to have on their daughter. Perry says she didn't want to be an actor in high school, but she decided to begin playing as a way to make friends at Northwestern University when she switched from Boston University. Perry was a graduate of Boston University, relocated in New York in search of TV roles. She landed small parts in shows like Law & Order: Criminal Intent. Then, homelessness led her to California for theater roles. She appeared on Broadway as a part of The Other Place with her mother in 2013. In 2015 she performed alongside her father as well as Kevin McKidd in Eugene O'Neill's Pulitzer Prize-winning drama Anna Christie in the Odyssey Theatre Ensemble in West Los Angeles. Perry played a lead role in nine episodes of ABC's show The Family. In 2017 she had an recurring role in The ABC Political thriller Scandal which starred her father. The same year she was cast as the younger version of Mary Cooper (Sheldon Cooper's mother) on Young Sheldon, a spin-off of the CBS sitcom The Big Bang Theory again portraying a younger model of the mother's character. The role was given by audition despite the fact that she has a family tie to the character.
